RANAU: A wooden storage unit near Putri Nabalu Restaurant and Nabalu Lodge in Kundasang was destroyed in a fire on Tuesday evening, prompting confusion after videos of the incident circulated widely on social media.
The fire, reported at about 5.30pm, led many social media users to mistakenly believe that the popular restaurant and accommodation premises had caught fire.
Initial information indicated that only the wooden storage unit on a nearby property was affected, while the main restaurant and lodge buildings were not involved.
The blaze drew the attention of motorists and visitors, who stopped to record the incident as thick smoke rose into the evening sky, while the cause of the fire, the extent of the damage and any financial losses have yet to be determined.
As of this writing, the Sabah Fire and Rescue Department had not issued an official statement, and there was no information on injuries or casualties as investigations continued.
