SIPITANG Member of Parliament Datuk Matbali Musah has proposed that a quota for representatives from Sabah and Sarawak be considered in the membership of the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC).
He said such representation was important due to the geographical realities of Sabah and Sarawak, which differ significantly from those in Peninsular Malaysia.

“These realities can only be truly understood by those born and raised in our states – local people who appreciate the uniquely diverse and extraordinary geographical landscape we have,” he said.
Matbali said this while debating the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (Amendment) Bill 2026 in Parliament.
Emphasising the need for balance and fair representation within the commission, he said the inclusion of members from Sabah and Sarawak would not only uphold the principle of inclusiveness but also provide a broader national perspective.
“A strong nation is one that listens to every voice, not just the voices closest to the centre of administration,” he said.
Matbali welcomed the Bill, describing it as timely and worthy of support.
“This amendment sends a clear message that the Government is committed to ensuring that the MCMC remains relevant in addressing the challenges of the Fourth Industrial Revolution, the digital economy and future technological developments,” he said.
