MENUMBOK: Some 500 villagers in Kg Sekalong here will benefit from the Ministry of Domestic Trade and Cost of Living’s (KPDN) Madani Adopted Village (Kampung Angkat Madani) Project, which focuses on improving basic infrastructure and enhancing the well-being of the local community.
KPDN Minister Datuk Armizan Mohd Ali said Kg Sekalong, in the Kuala Penyu constituency, was selected as KPDN’s Madani Adopted Village this year based on several criteria set by the Government, including the fact that coverage of basic amenities in the area remains below 50 per cent.

He said the Government has allocated RM500,000 to each participating ministry and agency to implement development projects in their respective adopted villages under the Madani Adopted Village Project.
“Following engagement sessions with residents and local leaders, five key projects have been identified for implementation in Kg Sekalong, with all targeted for completion by the end of this year.
“These include the construction of an open multipurpose hall, upgrading village roads, constructing and repairing drainage culverts, installing solar-powered lights, and building a landmark for Kg Sekalong,” he said.
Armizan said this at a press conference after launching the KPDN Madani Adopted Village Project for Kg Sekalong, recently.

The launch was accompanied by several activities, including the Program Jualan Rahmah Madani (PJRM), health screening services, consumer advocacy programmes and community activities such as a communal feast.
Also present was Assistant Works and Utilities Minister and Kuala Penyu Assemblyman Datuk Limus Jury.
Armizan said the Federal Government has allocated RM200 million this year for the Madani Adopted Village initiative, benefiting 500 selected villages nationwide.
“The Madani Adopted Village Project was introduced in 2024 to narrow the development gap between urban and rural areas.
“This year’s allocation of RM200 million will benefit 500 selected villages across the country,” he said.
He said the programme goes beyond infrastructure development by also incorporating non-physical initiatives such as community engagement sessions and the delivery of government services directly to residents.
“The implementation of this programme reflects the Government’s continued commitment to providing basic facilities and services that have a direct impact on the well-being of the people, particularly those in rural areas,” he said.
Armizan said KPDN previously implemented the Madani Adopted Village Project in Mukim Kaiduan, Papar, in 2024 and Mukim Tikam Batu, Kedah, in 2025.
He added that KPDN is also involved in the Santuni Madani Programme, which adopts the “One Leader, One Village” concept introduced by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim to strengthen ties between leaders and local communities.
“Currently, seven villages in Sabah, Kedah, Pahang and Perak are participating in the programme under the stewardship of the Minister, Deputy Minister, senior ministry officials and agencies under KPDN.
“The programme strengthens the culture of care and a sense of belonging towards one’s hometown while helping to enhance village potential and empower local communities,” he said.
