Tenom: Four state-level events will be held in Tenom between September and November this year, a move expected to boost the district’s tourism sector and generate economic opportunities for the local community.
Sabah Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food Industry Datuk Jamawi Jaffar said the major events are the Sabah State-Level Farmers, Breeders and Fishermen’s Day (HPPN), Flower Festival, Love Our River Festival and a Camping Programme.
He said the events will not only provide opportunities for the local community to participate in various activities, but will also serve as a platform to showcase Tenom’s potential in agro-tourism, culture and local products.
“There will be four state-level events hosted in Tenom in September, October and November, which will enliven the district and stimulate its economy,” he said to reporters after officiating the closing ceremony of the 30th Maba–Matrix National Basketball Championship 2026 here on Saturday.
According to Jamawi, the programmes are expected to attract thousands of visitors from across Sabah, benefiting tourism industry players, small entrepreneurs and local traders.
Besides stimulating economic activities, he said the events will also provide an opportunity to highlight the uniqueness of Tenom’s cultural heritage and its natural beauty, which are among the district’s main attractions.
Jamawi hopes that all stakeholders, including government agencies, local communities and business operators, will work together to ensure the successful implementation of the planned programmes and maximise their positive impact on Tenom’s development.
With the hosting of these state-level events, he added Tenom is expected to further strengthen its position as one of Sabah’s leading tourism and agro-tourism destinations.
