PAPAR: The Sabah State Government expects the Kogopon Water Treatment Plant (WTP) and the Kabang Raw Water Intake plant to resolve water supply issues in Papar, Putatan, and Kimanis by the end of this year.
Chief Minister Datuk Seri Hajiji Noor said the 80 million litres daily (MLD) Kogopon WTP and the new Kabang plant are expected to be operational in November and August, respectively.
He had directed the State Water Department to closely monitor both infrastructure projects to ensure they are fully completed without experiencing any further delays.
"Be more proactive in handling water shortage issues by sending water tanks to affected areas not only here but in all areas in the state," he said in a statement after attending a briefing on the two projects at Papar here today.
State Water Department director Chee Chun Chieh earlier briefed the Chief Minister that the RM365.9 million Kogopon WTP will start supplying water by the end of November, with full completion expected by 2028.
Hajiji added that although the state's water supply problem is considered a legacy issue, the current administration is fully committed to addressing it as a responsible government.
Meanwhile, he said the RM39.73 million Kabang Water Intake plant is currently 90 per cent completed and is officially scheduled to be commissioned by September this year.
Built further upstream on the Papar river, the new intake will boost capacity from nine MLD to 30 MLD and avoid salinity issues frequently affecting the existing Limbahau plant.
