6 girls face riot charge  after viral assault video
They were charged under Section 147 of the Penal Code, which carries a jail term of up to two years’ imprisonment, or a fine, or both, upon conviction.
Kota Kinabalu: Six female students were charged in the Children’s Court on Monday with rioting in connection with an incident that went viral on social media.

The accused, aged between 12 and 16, pleaded not guilty after the charge was read before Magistrate Dzul Elmy Yunus.

According to the charge sheet, they are accused of being members of an unlawful assembly with the common intention of causing injury to a 13-year-old female student by using force.

The offence allegedly committed at about 8am on May 22 this year outside the gate of a secondary school here.

The court fixed Sept 9 for pre-trial case management (PTCM) and each of the teenager was granted bail of RM1,000 with a deposit of RM500, with either a father or mother required to be as surety.

All the six were represented by counsels Datuk Ram Singh and Prabjit Singh Gill, while the prosecution was conducted by Deputy Public Prosecutor Arfa Anchal Khan Muhammad Munir Khan.

It was previously reported that a Form One female student was injured after allegedly being assaulted by a group of students.

The incident came to light after a video showing the alleged victim being beaten went viral on social media on May 27, drawing widespread public attention.
