Kota Kinabalu: Six female students aged between 12 and 16 were charged in the Children’s Court here on Monday with rioting in connection with a viral social media incident.
The teenagers pleaded not guilty after the charge was read before Magistrate Dzul Elmy Yunus.

They were accused of being members of an unlawful assembly with the common intention of causing injury to a 13-year-old female student by using force at about 8am on May 22 outside the gate of a secondary school here.
The charge was framed under Section 147 of the Penal Code, which carries a maximum jail term of two years, or a fine, or both upon conviction.
The court fixed Sept 9 for pre-trial case management and granted each accused bail of RM1,000 with a RM500 deposit, with either their father or mother required to act as surety.
