BONGAWAN Assemblyman Dr Daud Yusof urged the Sabah Government to use part of the additional allocation under the 2026 Supplementary Supply Bill to address long-standing infrastructure issues, particularly water supply problems in the constituency.
Debating the Bill at the Sabah State Legislative Assembly on Tuesday, he said the allocation should not only cover operational needs but also fund projects that directly benefit rural communities.
Dr Daud said a previous fire incident in Bongawan exposed weaknesses in the water supply system, with low pressure and leaking pipes hampering firefighting efforts.
He called for upgrades to the water distribution network, replacement of ageing pipes, reduction of Non-Revenue Water and improvements to water pressure.
He also urged the government to strengthen veterinary services in rural areas by increasing officers, providing operational vehicles, expanding mobile clinics and improving support for livestock farmers.
Dr Daud said limited resources had affected the response to animal diseases and deaths, impacting farmers’ income.

He further called for faster action on road and drainage problems, saying poor maintenance had contributed to recurring floods, property damage and disruptions to economic activities.
He stressed that regular preventive maintenance would be more cost-effective than addressing major damage later.
Dr Daud also highlighted road safety concerns near Sekolah Kebangsaan Nyaris-Nyaris linked to the Pan Borneo Highway Project, urging the construction of safer intersections and improved access routes.
He supported the Supplementary Supply Bill, but said the additional funds must be translated into action to improve infrastructure and public services in Bongawan.
