CONSTRUCTION of the Dusun Civilisation and Ethnic Heritage Museum in Ranau is 50 per cent complete and remains on schedule for completion in March 2027, the State Legislative Assembly was told.
Assistant Tourism, Culture and Environment Minister Dr Andi Md Shamsureezal Mohd Sainal said a new contractor had been appointed to resume the RM3.5 million project, with construction works commencing on March 4, 2025 under a 24-month implementation period.
“As of the end of June this year, the project’s physical progress stands at 50 per cent and implementation is proceeding according to schedule,” he said in reply to a question from Paginatan assemblyman Datuk Rusdin Riman on the project’s status, including the appointment of a new contractor, approved allocation, progress and expected completion date.
Andi said the Ministry remained committed to ensuring the project’s smooth implementation given its importance as a centre for the preservation and conservation of ethnic cultural heritage, adding that it also had the potential to become a cultural tourism attraction that could strengthen the local community’s economy.
He said the Ministry and the State Museum Department would continue to monitor the project regularly to ensure quality, progress and compliance with the prescribed specifications.
During supplementary questions, Sulabayan assemblyman Datuk Jaujan Sambakong urged the Ministry to improve the management of Bukit Tengkorak Museum and the Early Islamic Burial Museum on Omadal Island in Semporna, saying both museums were completed but were sometimes closed when tourists visited.

In response, Andi said the Ministry had taken note of the matter and would work towards addressing it.
