SANDAKAN: A foreign man was sentenced to 22 years' jail and 44 strokes of the cane by the Sessions Court here on Tuesday after pleading guilty to raping and sodomising his young stepdaughter.
Judge Roslinda Razali heard the offences were committed in 2023 and this year when the victim was aged eight and 11, with investigations indicating she had been abused repeatedly.
The abuse came to light after the girl confided in a school friend, who alerted a teacher, prompting her mother to lodge a police report, while a medical examination supported the allegations.
The court imposed concurrent jail terms under Sections 376(3) and 377C of the Penal Code, with separate sentences under Section 16(1) of the Sexual Offences Against Children Act 2017, bringing the total sentence to 22 years and 44 strokes.
The accused, who was not represented, will be deported by the Immigration Department after serving his sentence.
