TAMBUNAN: The Sabah government has pledged immediate assistance and reconstruction plans for Sekolah Agama Islam Tambunan, which was recently destroyed by fire.
Chief Minister Datuk Seri Panglima Hajiji Haji Noor, who visited the site, announced an initial aid of RM200,000, followed by RM50,000 from the Sabah Islamic Affairs Department and the Sabah Welfare Foundation to support affected students and the school.

He said the state government will rebuild the school and hostel with an estimated cost of RM8 million, replacing the 1970s-era buildings with modern, safer and more comfortable facilities.
“The government is committed to ensuring students can continue learning in a conducive environment. This reflects our continued concern for Islamic education in Sabah,” Hajiji said.
He added that Sekolah Agama Islam Tambunan is the only Islamic school with a hostel in the district, and the state will explore adding more hostel facilities in other religious schools across Sabah.
The Chief Minister also instructed that conditions of religious schools statewide be regularly upgraded.
The cause of the fire is still under investigation by the Sabah Fire and Rescue Department, with an official report expected soon.
