RANAU: Two men have been remanded by the Ranau Magistrate’s Court in connection with separate theft-related cases currently under police investigation.
In the first case, a 30-year-old local man was remanded for seven days, from July 22 until July 28, to assist investigations into the theft of vehicle spare parts from a rented house in Kundasang.
According to the investigation papers, the complainant lodged a police report on July 18 after discovering that the storage room in front of his rented house had been left open.
A subsequent inspection revealed several missing items, including two 15W-40 engine oil containers, a red truck jack, and an orange lorry jack.
Police later arrested the suspect on July 21 at the roadside near Bundu Tuhan, Ranau. He is being investigated under Section 379 of the Penal Code for theft.
Investigators informed the court that additional time was required to record the suspect’s statement, obtain his fingerprints and photographs, and identify and verify the recovered items connected to the case.

In a separate incident, a 25-year-old local man was remanded for four days, from July 21 to July 24, to facilitate investigations under Section 22A of the Sabah Minor Offences Ordinance.
The suspect was arrested during a patrol conducted by the Ranau District Police Headquarters (IPD Ranau) at a temporary landfill site in Kampung Tanah Merah, Ranau.
Police said officers observed a Perodua Viva behaving suspiciously before approaching and inspecting the vehicle.
A search uncovered several items believed to be intended for cable theft, including cutting tools, copper cable pieces, and equipment commonly used to steal electrical cables.
The suspect was immediately detained, while all suspected stolen items and tools were seized for further investigation.
Police told the court that the remand was necessary to complete the investigation, including recording the suspect’s statement and obtaining fingerprints and photographs.
Both investigations remain ongoing.
