TAMBUNAN: Police have arrested two locals and seized suspected syabu worth approximately RM800 following a raid on a house in Kampung Kiawayan here on Monday.
Keningau District Police Chief Supt Yampil Anak Garai said the arrests were made following a public tip-off regarding suspected drug-related activities in the area.
He said the operation, carried out by the District Narcotics Criminal Investigation Division (BSJND) of the Keningau District Police Headquarters (IPD) at about noon, resulted in the arrest of a 23-year-old man and a 33-year-old woman.
“A search of the premises led to the discovery of a small bag containing seven transparent plastic packets of various sizes filled with crystalline substances believed to be syabu.
“The substance, believed to be syabu, weighed a total of 7.27 grammes and had an estimated street value of RM800,” Yampil said on Tuesday.
He said preliminary urine screening tests conducted on both suspects found them positive for methamphetamine and amphetamine.

“Police checks also revealed that both suspects have previous records for drug-related offences under Section 15(1)(a) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952. The case is being investigated under Section 39A(1) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952.
“Both suspects have been remanded at the Keningau IPD lock-up to facilitate further investigations,” he said.
Yampil said the district police also expressed appreciation to members of the public whose information led to the successful operation and urged the community to continue assisting authorities in combating drug abuse and trafficking.
“Public cooperation remains vital in our efforts to eradicate drug-related activities and ensure safer communities,” he said.
