THAM Yun Fook (Warisan-Likas) called on the State Government and the State Education, Science, Technology and Innovation Ministry to take a serious stance on bullying in schools, saying the issue could not be left to the Ministry of Education alone.
“We see bullying happening in Tawau, Kota Kinabalu and Tenom, and there are cases still going through the courts,” he said.
“Do not let our children and grandchildren experience being bullied at school,” he said when debating the Supplementary Supply Bill 2026.
Tham asked what plans the State Government and the Ministry have to address and prevent further bullying cases in schools, saying the matter should not be left entirely to the Federal Ministry of Education.
He welcomed the proposed RM23.5 million additional allocation for the Youth, Sports Development and Creative Economy Ministry, and called for repairs to the Kota Kinabalu Sports Complex in Likas.
“Around the sports complex, not just the stadium but the archery, hockey and other sports centres, the roads are damaged and poorly maintained and need to be repaired,” he said.

He said he supported the additional funding as it would give young people the opportunity to stay active.
“We want to produce a truly healthy population. If the facilities are not safe, how can we produce healthy youths or citizens?” he said.
He noted the Ministry’s original RM98 million allocation last year had been insufficient, an issue he said he had raised in the previous State Assembly sitting.
Additionally, he called for the Budi Diesel subsidy for Sabahans to be uncapped, citing the State’s cost of living and the physical needs of its people.
