Kota Kinabalu: The Finance Ministry has approved the appointment of a contractor to resume construction of the Tongod Sports Complex.
Youth, Sports and Creative Economy Minister Datuk Nizam Abu Bakar Titingan
(pic) said his ministry is preparing to issue the letter of award, with site works to begin once the contractor accepts the offer and fulfils its conditions.
He said this in reply to Kuamut Assemblyman Datuk Masiung Banah during the State Legislative Assembly sitting on Thursday.
Responding to a supplementary question on whether a grandstand would be included, Nizam said the current approval was only to complete the abandoned project, which stalled after works began in 2019.
He said any additional facilities not covered under the present contract, including a grandstand, could be considered under a future phase.
