KINABATANGAN: A container lorry carrying various goods caught fire in Sukau here on Friday afternoon, with members of the public extinguishing the blaze before firefighters arrived.

The Fire and Rescue Department received the emergency call at 4.29pm and deployed a team of six personnel from the Kinabatangan station, which arrived at the scene at 4.56pm.

The fire affected about 20 per cent of the cargo inside the eight-tonne container, while no casualties were reported.

Firefighters conducted inspections to ensure there were no further hazards before concluding the operation at 5.48pm.
