KENINGAU: A solar streetlight installation worker died after he was believed to have been electrocuted while carrying out installation work at Jalan Kg Malinja, Nabawan, on Tuesday morning.
In the 11.45am incident, the victim, identified as David Poli Karpus, 27, a Timorese,l who worked as a solar pole installer, was pronounced dead at the scene.
Keningau District Police Chief Supt Yampil Anak Garai said Nabawan Police Station received information about the incident at 12.05pm after being notified by the Nabawan Fire and Rescue Station.
Following the report, he said a team of Crime Prevention Patrol (RCJ) personnel from Nabawan Police Station, led by Sgt Japinin together with Const Dicky and Nabawan Assistant Officer-in-Charge of Police Station (P/KPB) Sgt Syamsudin Mansu, rushed to the scene to conduct investigations.
“Initial investigations found that the victim was believed to have suffered an electric shock while carrying out work to plant a solar streetlight pole.
“The end of the pole held by the victim is believed to have come into contact with a main electricity cable near the roadside, causing electric current to flow directly through the victim’s body,” he said here on Tuesday.

An ambulance team from Nabawan Health Clinic that arrived at the scene confirmed that the victim had died at the location.
The victim’s body was later sent to the Forensic Department of Keningau Hospital for further examination and post-mortem.
Yampil said the body was identified by the victim’s father, Poli Karpus, who confirmed the deceased’s identity as his biological son.
He said the case has been classified as a Sudden Death Report (SDR), and further investigations are ongoing to complete the inquiry into the incident.
